The Ogun State government, has urged residents across the state to complement the government’s effort by contributing to embracing a liveable and healthy environment.
The government emphasized that ensuring a clean and healthy environment is everybody’s concern.
The Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi stated this during the 2022 workshop organized by the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA in Abeokuta the state capital.
He noted that the Dapo Abiodun-led administration is ensuring a pollution-free environment for its occupants.
He added that the effort is an indicator of part of the I.S.E.Y.A acronyms which portrays the social welfare and well-being of the citizens of the state.
According to him, the Ogun state government under the watch of his excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun is committed to ensuring that air, water, and land in the state are not polluted and where we have seen pollution, immediate actions have been taken in the past.
“These are indicators of part of the I.S.E.Y.A acronyms of Social Welfare and Well-being of the citizenry and the concerned environment.
“the responsibility of maintaining a clean environment is not for OGEPA only, it is for everybody.
“I will therefore call on every one of us to take this workshop as a charge to contribute your quota in embracing a liveable, safe and healthy environment for the people of Ogun state while together safeguarding the sustainable global economy for our future generation.
Earlier in his address, the Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, emphasized the commitment of the state government to support the national government to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG.
He also noted that Ogun and Kano states have been chosen by the National government to facilitate the adaption litigation process in Nigeria.
He said, “when it comes to climate change and adaptation mitigation process in Nigeria, Ogun state is one of the two states in Nigeria that has been chosen by the National government to run this process.
“It is only in Ogun and Kano states that we are having this process going on and we are the ones who set the benchmark for the nation to grow in the adaptation process.
“Ogun State is aspiring to support the national government in achieving all the SDG goals. We aspire to meet the 42 percent conditional and national target here in Ogun state and we are contributing so much.”
