Chairman of Delta state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress,( NLC) Chief GoodLuck Ofobruku has called on Nigerians to vote for candidates that will serve and protect their interests when elected in the forthcoming general elections.
Ofobruku gave this advice when he spoke to newsmen at the state labour house in Asaba Delta state.
He said that Nigerians should not be sentimental in voting for candidates rather they should vote for who is ready to serve them, just as he warns Nigerians to take the election process seriously.
According to him, “election is coming, Nigerians should vote for people who are ready to serve them, not people that will serve their personal pockets”.
He added that the Nigeria labour unions empathize with the masses over the continuous artificial scarcity of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across the country.
He maintained that NLC is equally worried at the unnecessary increment in the price of fuel that has skyrock the price of goods in the market.
He urged the federal government to find a lasting solution to curb the artificial scarcity by PMS markers for the masses to live a comfortable life in Nigeria, especially in this yuletide season.
Chief Ofobruku disclosed that the Nigeria Labour Congress has issued a statement asking the federal government not to allow middlemen to take advantage by creating this artificial scarcity, just as he noted that the federal government has not responded to them which he said shows irresponsibility as leaders.
He further disclosed that the Nigerian labour movement is waiting patiently to see if it will be necessary to take action.
“ NLC last week, issue a statement on this fuel scarcity, telling the federal government that there is enough fuel in the country and should not allow middlemen to create artificial fuel scarcity”
“But so far, the federal government is not responding and doing anything towards that, it shows that federal government is trying not to be responsible leaders”
“ But the Nigeria labour movement, after waiting for a while, we will hold a meeting to see if it is necessary to act, especially in this yuletide season”
When asked about the salary increment of workers due to the high cost of fuel and living, he said the union has set up her economy technical team to find out whether it is necessary to increase salary.
” if our economy expert advice us that it is necessary for increment, then we will agitate for it, but the federal government will do well to bring down the cost of PMS and cost of goods generally and look at their economic policy” he said.
