…Says No Part Of Organ Damaged

…Police Have Cleared Our Hospital -Clinic

Sodiq Mojibola

The Redwood Specialist, Abeokuta, has faulted the claims by the parents of two ladies who donated their organs to the hospital, saying, the two donors were neither minors nor any part of their body damaged .

Cosultant, Obstetricians and Gynecologists at the redwood specialist, Dr. Adetoye Durodola cleared the air over the report that the donors were minors and that their sensitive parts of the body (anus and ovarian part) have been damaged as a result of the donation .

Reacting to the media report that two female teenagers reportedly sold their organs to the hospital in Abeokuta for N200, 000, Dr Durodola said the matter had been investigated by police at two different stations and had cleared the hospital and its officials.

Narrating the side of his story, the Cosultant, Obstetricians and Gynecologists
said “the two ladies came to the hospital at different times .

He said “It was Favour that first came. She was brought by blessing who had also done egg donation .

” She brought Favour that she is her sister and that she was also interested. She was screened and was found to be fit and we commenced the eggs donation and there was no problem at all. She then brought Precious for the eggs donation scheme.”

Speaking on whether the donors were minors or not, Dr. Durodola said the hospital subjected them to the world best practice which includes verifying their ages .

He said “I want to say something about the age of the ladies. Usually, we have forms that we ask donors to fill. These two ladies filled the forms and stated clearly their ages and dates of birth which showed that they were both well above 18 years .

“And to corroborate that claim, they brought bank account details and claimed that those accounts were opened when they were 18 years and there was no doubt that they were above 18.

“So, following the eggs donation, Precious had some abdominal pains, apparently, because, she did not want to tell her Dad that she did egg donation, the dad took her to another hospital where they said she has appendicitis and she would need to be operated on. It was at that point that she confessed and told her dad that she had eggs donation.”

The Consultant said that father of one of the ladies brought his child to the hospital in Abeokuta from Lagos over the issue where the clear picture was given.

He said “I explained to them that it was a mild reaction to the treatment and that she would soon be fine that, she does not need any operation, she would just need some pain killers and fluid.

“That was what we did ,the dad went back to Lagos the same day, but, said she would want Precious to stay at the hospital with her brother so that they would be convinced that she is completely okay, because they had already told him at another hospital that her organs were damaged .

“I allayed fear and told them that there is nothing wrong with the lady . So, she was fine , she responded well to the treatment and she went home less than 48 hours after admission and there was no complaint after that.”

Speaking on when the donation was made , Dr Durodola said the issue did not just happen ,saying that , it had happened three months ago .

He also said that the matter was reported to police in Miran in Lagos who he said investigated the matter and exonerated the hospital .

He said “It was about almost one month after, that I learnt that Blessing was arrested by police and my partner in Lagos too was also arrested, that, we were doing organ harvesting and that we used people that were less than 18 years old.

“On the issue of the age, I went to the police station at Miran with documents, the papers that they signed, the consent they signed, the forms that they filled where they put down their dates of birth .

“At the police station they were convinced to some extent that those
documents presented were genuine and on the issue of the fact that their organs were damage .

“At the police station they were told to present medical report because the girl are healthy .

“There was no sign that there was anything wrong with them . They could not provide it and at that point, the police said it would be difficult because there was no evidence . About one and half month

“The father of Precious came with a scanned report which showed fluid ,it is a normal finding . He claimed that the organs were damaged and he wants N200million compensation to be paid .

“The police asked me do I want to give them something, I told the police that there was nothing that we did that was out of place, there was no way I could give them that amount of money . I said well, to compesate them , just to let the matter rest, I said I could give them N300,000 which the man rejected .

“At that point the police transfered the case to State Criminal Investigative Department, I went to Panti with my other doctor, we made a statement . It was only Favour’s mother that came, she also made a statement that her child was below 18 and I could remember that at the station, the police said that if you are saying that your daughter is below 18 , but, the lady has been flaunting that she is a 20 year old, she has a BVN and a bank account that show that your daughter is a serial liar .

“The birth certificate that they brought there was a alteration on the date ,so, they said that this case would be difficult to be charged court.

The police said if there was a way to settle this case .

“The police have investigated this case, we have been on this case for about two to three months .

“They investigated that in Miran police station and they said that there was nothing to charge to court . We moved to Panti , they have also investigated it and said we have no case to answer . So, that is what I can say.”

On the allegation that ,the doctor sedated them and that their organsa have been damaged , Dr Durodola said “there was nothing like that .

” No part of the body has been damaged. None whatsoever . And I am sure, I can say it with all confidence that nothing is wrong with them and if anybody checks, there is no organ that is affected.

“If they can subject themselves and allow themselves to be tested by independent medical experts, it would be seen that there is no organ in the body that is damaged.”
