Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 29 years old man for taking advantage of the health challenges of a down syndrome lady by forcefully having carnal knowledge of her.
The suspect, Kunle Abati, was arrested following a report lodged at the Ilese Ijebu Divisional Headquarters by the mother of the victim.
According to a statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested on Wednesday after Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Paul Omiwole detailed his detectives to go after the suspect.
Oyeyemi said the mother who had lodged the complaint at the police station had reported that a man had carnal knowledge of her daughter when she sent her on an errand.
In the mother’s statement she said, “around 7:30, she sent her daughter on some errands, when she returned she noticed some blood stain on her cloth, when she asked her daughter about the blood stain on her cloth, she took her to the house of the victim and explained that the suspect had carnal knowledge about her”.
Oyeyemi further stated in the statement that, “On interrogation, the suspect has confessed to commiting the crime, adding that he equally capitalised on the health challenge of the lady to do what he did only for him to discover that she was a virgin.
“The victim who was bleeding, was rushed to General Hospital ijebu ode for medical attention.” He added.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to Anti Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the state Criminal Investigation Departments immediately for further investigation.
