Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has awarded scholarship to indegene students of Adamawa State University with approved 50 percent increase on allowances.
He disclosed this on Tuesday at the 14th Convocation ceremony and 20th anniversary of Adamawa State University Mubi (ADSUM).
Fintiri who said that his government is committed to prioritize education has directed the Scholarship Board to carry out the review with immediate effect.
He added that his administration has made tuition fee payment free for students and made the payment of WAEC and NECO compulsory.
In his words, “We have education tuition free and made payment to WAEC and NECO an obligation. Considering the economic situation in the country which has been worsened by the effect of the COVID-19 on the house.
“I want to announce an open review of the annual bursaries popularly known as scholarship to our indigene students with 50 percent increment.
“I have directed the scholarship board to carry out the review with immediate effect.
The Governor congratulated the graduands and advised them to take advantage of any opportunity that came their way for their success in the future.
Fintiri urged the lecturers to engage in ground breaking research and innovations especially in the area of Agriculture for more development and increase in internally generated revenue of the university.
According to him, “In addition, the continuous decline in oil revenue, the state received less allocation from the centre. This implies that the university must continue to innovate meaningfully in the area of cost reduction and enhance internal revenue generation.
“I recall the university council and management rise to the occasion and keyed into the various areas I suggested in the last convocation.
“Agriculture employed over 70 per cent of our citizens in production, processing, storage and marketing activities.” He added.
