Many members of transport union in Ogun state have been thrown into a wild jubilation following the recent appointment of the Ogun state chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaj Mudtapha Ismails popularly called Yaro.
The state government announced the appointment through the approval of a new transportation union named ‘the Ogun State Operations Management Services to be chaired by Yaro.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the new arrangement was.made to pave way for peace in the state following the order which stopped NURTW from operating in motor parks in the state .
The state government in the letter titled “Ogun state Bus Stations, Parks and garages operations : letter of approval” was addressed to Yaro and signed by Director, Public Transport & Commuter Services,from the Ministry of Transportation, Shokunbi O.B.A, for the Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo.
The statement reads in part: “I refer to the expressed interest of Ogun Station Operations Management Services (OSOMS) to provide bus stations, parks and garages operations and management services across Ogun State.
“I am delighted to inform you that, subject to a satisfactorily executed agreement, Allh. Mustapha Ismaila Yaro the Chairman of OSMOS has the approval of the Ministry of Transportation to join subsisting approved unions, associations and organizations in the conduct of park operations and activities across Ogun State.
“Please note that qualification as an Ogun State transport sector service provider stakeholder comes with a number of responsibilities and expectations.”
The approval, according to the Commissioner, is subject to submission to maintain law and order, compliance to statutory regulations and bye laws, among others.
He said, “This approval is subject to the fulfilment of following conditions: Completion of formal MoT registration exercise within four weeks of the receipt of this approval.
“A written statement indicating your willingness to submit to transport sector regulations and directives and maintain law and order in the conduct of your services.
“The statement must be signed on behalf of your company by the CEO and the Secretary and to be submitted to the office of the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Transportation within one week of the receipt of this letter.
“Execution of a Service Level Agreement with MoT/PAGADA within 4 weeks receipt of this letter and compliance with the terms and conditions contained therein.
“Compliance with statutory National, OGSG MDA and LG rules, regulation and by-laws.”
The statement further read that further that the company is to alternate bus stations and parks operations activities with subsisting operators starting with an immediate four -week trial/pilot period.”
