Delta state governor, senator Dr. lfeanyi Okowa has said strengthening of the primary health care facilities and operations in the state is strategy to enable government to achieve the universal health care coverage in the country.
The governor, ably represented by the state secretary Hon. Patrick Ukah, stated this in Asaba during the official commissioning of the health care equipments to the state primary health care development agency, (DSPHCDA).
The governor noted that one ways to reduce health challenges in the country is to focus strongly on primary health care.
He commended DESOPADEC for providing the equipment to encourage health care delivery and motivating local government councils to show more interest in health care coverage to their communities.
He urged that local government authorities should make optimal use of the facilities for the benefit of the people.
Earlier, the managing director of DESOPADEC, Bashorun Askia Ogieh (JP) noted that the provisions cover essential needs for the effective and efficient delivery of primary health services in the 268 primary health care facilities across the state for of all Deltans.
He disclosed that the objectives is to ensure that Deltans have access to health care within their proximity, adding that healthy citizenry will not only enhance productivity in all spheres of life but also for the general well-being, happiness, and peace of mind of all.
