The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), Ogun State chapter has advised the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun to follow the precedence of the precedence of the Lagos State Govenrment on the implementation of the Muslim Rights.
This was made known in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the religious association, the state Chapter, Ustadh Jimoh Tajudeen Alao, and the Secretary, Mr. Olaleye AbdulRasheed Damilare, on Thursday.
Jimoh explained that the association has sent letters requesting the Ogun State Governor to implement the Supreme court’s judgements on Muslim Rights in the state.
The state chairman explained that implementation of the Muslims rights would go a long way to ensure that Muslim students and children are protected from unnecessary intimidation, molestation and confrontation.
In his words, “MURIC as a critical stakeholder in the fight for Muslim self reliance in respect to their rights will also do a comprehensive follow up to ensure that our Muslim children and students are safe and free from unnecessary intimidation, molestation and confrontation from some overzealous christian teachers in the State.
“We advise Ogun State Government to borrow, emulate and mirror the precedence of Lagos State Government on the development. The Government of Ogun State should send a circular as a matter of urgency to all public institutions and sanction any teacher that goes against this order. This will Sustain Peace ,Unity , Justice , religious tolerance and social Security in the state.
“Based on our records, this will be the third time MURIC Ogun State Chapter will issue press releases to advise the Government of Prince Dapo Abiodun to implement the Supreme Court Judgement on the above subject matter.
“This burden of proofs in these context are obvious according to the pronouncement of the Honourable Justices of the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which reaffirmed the rights of Muslim students in Nigerian Schools to use hijab as they so wished.
“All hands must be on deck to ensure that there are consequences for defiant teachers.
The Muslim Rights Concern commended the League of Imams in the State in the recent pronouncement on the use of hijabs for Muslim students in the state schools.
He also advised that the League should do a follow up on the issue in public schools by constituting a task force.
He said, “We of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) Ogun State Chapter commend and congratulate the entire Muslims of the State for the recent pronouncement, in respect of hijab usage in our public Schools in the State.
“This has shown that our Muslim leaders across the state are up and doing. It has also shown the true patriotic value of Imāms who listen and understand the cry and fear of many Muslim parents and Students in Ogun State. We salute this effort, indeed !! you’re the heroes of our time.
“The aesthetic value of hijab to the Muslim girls cannot be overemphasized. It is the right of every Muslim girl as stipulated in the Quran and Sunnah of the holy Prophet Muhammad (S. A. W)
“We equally advice the league not to rely on this pronouncement alone but to do a follow up because of some religious bigots among the Christian teachers in our public schools.
“In conclusion, the league as a matter of urgency should constitute a taskforce in this regard. We equally advice all imāms in the state to change their mode of dawah from this coming week till resumption date by focusing on the hijab issue. Our pulpits should be used to enlighten the Muslims in the state.”
