Families and friends betrayed theri emotions as the remains of the seven persons who died in a lone accident on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway were being interred at a cemetery in Oke-Eri, Ijebu-Ode in Ogun state.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the burial rites followed the agreement by the widowers and family members of the deceased on a mass burial.
The dead persons include Mrs Basirat Adebanjo and her two-year-old daughter, Abidat; Kafilah Akindele, Azeezah AbdulMajeed, Halimah Lawal, Shakirah Zakariyya and one Iya Al-Ameen.
The families arrived at The Muslim Congress (TMC) Dawah Centre, Ijebu-Ode where the bodies were placed as early as 8 am.
The Chief Executive Officer of Vanguards Academy, Dr Zafaran Adeniyi, who met with the deceased’s families, described the victims as martyrs.
Grand Mufti of the Conference of Islamic Organisations (CIO) Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafi’I, who led the Janazah (Prayer for the deceased), consoled the family members over the death of their loved ones.
Sheikh Shafi’I said death will always come at the appointed time but in different circumstances.
The nature of the death of the seven persons, he said, was one of the ways to earn Allah’s paradise.
He admonished them to accept the will of Allah and continue to seek forgiveness for them.
Sheikh Qamarudeen Ajala urged everyone to renew their intentions and also prepare for the unexpected journey of no return.
Shortly after the burial, the other five injured at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital were moved to Lagos for further treatment.
This brings the number of injured ones to 10.
