Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ogun state, Niyi Ijalaye, on Tuesday lamented that over 800,000 Permanent Voters Cards were lying fallow at the Independent National Electoral Commission offices in the state .
Ijalaye raised this alarm while speaking with PLATFORM TIMES exclusively, saying over 400,000 PVCs were uncollected by the people who participated in the Continuous Voters Registration while another over 400,000 cards had remained in the office since 2011.
Ijalaye described it as one of the challenges the commission is facing in the state.
According to Ijalaye, the commission still has 2011 and 2015 PVCs uncollected , which make the total of all uncollected PVC’s in the state to be over 800,000.
He said, “the total figure for the Continuous Voters Registration and the old ones is not over 400,000, the total is more than that, the total for the CVR is about 400,000, but if we are looking at the total in general, we’ll be looking at about close to 800, 000 in total.”
Speaking on the reasons for this, he said, “what has happened was that the old ones for 2011 and 2015 is that some people might have died, some people might have relocated to other places.
“But this one that we registered recently, there is no reason they should not be picked.”
However, while speaking on what has been done to burnt PVC’s, he said only previous cards, 2011 and 2015, got burnt as they have also been replaced.
He said, The burnt ones have been replaced, what we’ve done on that so far is we’ve escalated those one’s to Abuja and they’ve been recreated, they’re not part of the over 400,000, it was the old cards, 2011and 2015 cards, these are the ones that got burnt.”
He also revealed that “on January 6, we are going to migrate these cards to wards levels till 15 of the month , we will now take it back to local government .”
He therefore expressed worries over the uncollected voters card, as he urged Ogun residents to pick up their voters card for them to be eligible to vote.

He said “We are also worried that if the people could register and refuse to collect their cards .
“We are doing our best . We are appealing to the people of the state to come forward and puck their cards .
“We are hopeful that when we take the cards to wards, the number will go down.”
