Residents, Landlords and Baales of Orile llawo Community, Alagbagba Area, Abeokuta, Ogun State, have raised alarm over an alleged plan by an embattled Oba-elect of the community, Alex McGregor to embark on a meeting as the Olu of Ilawo.

The residents raised concern that the proposed meeting can lead to serious breach of peace within the Orile-Ilawo Community.

The residents in a petition by the 63 village heads that formed the Ilawo clan, which was addressed to the Department of Secret Service said McGregor through some unknown individuals was reportedly circulating a paper to invite people of the community to an impromptu meeting.

The statement which was signed by the secretary of Igbimo Gbogbo Egbe Baale Orile-Ilawo, Taiwo Adejare, lamented that the action of McGregor parading himself as the monarch of the Ilawo has angered many youths of the town.

Th village heads said the youths have threatened to embark on protest and also disrupt the proposed meeting.

They also argued that it is contempt of the court for the embattled Oba-elect to be parading himself as monarch while the case as regards the stool is in court.

They insisted that the court has ruled that status quo should remain pending the determination of the suit.

They stressed that McGregor is not an acceptable candidate in Ilawo community and any action by him can lead to public unrest in the state.

The statement read in part, “We are the indigenous people of Orile llawo Community, Alagbagba Area, Abeokuta, Ogun State. We wish to lodge this protest petition against Chief Alex Olusegun Macgregor, who intends to embark on an act that can lead to serious breach of peace within the Orile-Ilawo Community, Alagbagba.

“It has been brought to our notice that the said Chief Alex Olusegun Macgregor, wants to hold a meeting with all the baales under Orile-Ilawo constituency in the capacity of “THE OLU OF ORILE ILAWO.

“This particular act negates the court proceeding dated 21 December, 2022, wherein the Court is of the opinion that the Res of Dispute must be preserved and this was made in suit No: AB/789/2022 BETWEEN CHIEF (MRS)TELEOLA ARIKU & 50RS-THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF OGUN STATE & 6 ORS. A CTC copy of the record of proceeding is annexed herein as Exhibit “A”.

“The case mentioned supra is in respect of the OBASHIP TUSSLE wherein, Chief Alex Olusegun Macgregor was sued in at least 3 different cases to stop parading himself as the “Olu of Orile Ilawo” since he is not an indigene of Orile – Ilawo Community. He has no village or town, in all of the original 194 villages that constitute Indigenous ORILE ILAWO. He is not from Orile Ilawo.

“Having considered the pending suit before Court 5 of the High Court of Ogun State, Abeokuta, It is therefore not appropriate for Chief Alex Olusegun Macgregor to still go ahead to host such meeting within Orile – Ilawo Community, knowing fully well that such is Illegal and the indigenous people of Orile-Ilawo through repeated protests never and do not want him as their king.

“Some of his cronies, a man named Wasiu Balogun has rumoured also to be threatening villagers that those who do not support his alleged paymaster will be met with full force and this might lead to serious breakdown of order.

“However in view of the meeting he intends to host, all the irate youths of Orile – Ilawo, elders and community leaders have vouched never to allow the meeting to hold and this may cause breach of law and order within Orile-Ilawo, Alagbagba.

“In light of the foregoing, we want peace and humbly clamour for your office and also, all law enforcement agencies to spring into action immediately to stop the said planned meeting from holding nor on in the nearest future pending determination of all cases in court, if not same will prompt, chaos, breach of peace and order that can lead to serious conflict battle, disunity, discord and hostilities within Orile–Ilawo community especially because this man is parading himself as the “OLU OF ORILE ILAWO”.

“This is a clarion call that requires your urgent intervention because the meeting is said to be taking place tomorrow 18th January, 2023. The notice sent around has been attached to this petition as Exhibit “B”.”
