The Olowu of Owu kingdom ,Abeokuta , Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola has warned that the agitation for Yoruba nation may tear other towns and cities including Egba and Owu apart .
The monarch who attributed the call for agitation for the new nations to
insecurity in the country , said unless serious steps are taken , Nigeria may pay for it .
The monarch spoke during a radio programme tagged “THE CHAT, described the sitiasion as unfortunate.
He said “It’s unfortunate that we found ourselves in this situation in Nigeria because of the insecurity, lack of Jobs and poor governance.
“We have suffered over the decades and that’s what leads to this type of agitation.
People feel they are being marginalized, they are being oppressed .
“The reality is this, it’s not going to end in Yoruba Nation, it’s going to come down to Egba Nation, Owu Nation, because think about it, before the Europeans came, we were different people, we had the Yorubas, Hausas, Fulanis and others.
“And there were ways we were governing ourselves, infact, in the early 1800s, there was Egba United Government that already had diplomatic relations with Europeans at that time.
“So essentially, when we became a one, people felt some people felt oppressed, for me, I do not believe that solves our problem, it’s not going to end at that level.
“Even within families, there could break, it’s essential we need to accommodate each other, what’s on ground is sufficient for us.”
