A Magistrate Court Isabo sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, has sentenced a -21-years old man, Magaji Abeeb, to 14 years Imprisonment for attempting to steal from a Magistrate court in the city.
The court, on Friday, gave it’s verdict after the convict pleaded guilty on the three count charge against him.
According to the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Olakunle Shonibare, the convict committed the crime at the former High Court premises, which is now the Magistrate court Isabo, Abeokuta, on January 12.
He said the convict burgled and entered the old high court premises to steal a generator from the court’s premises, at 10:45pm.
He added that the convict damaged a 20nm cable that transfers light into the generator.
The prosecutor disclosed that the convict was caught by two security officers, Adeleke Olasunkanmi And Kayode Sina who were on a night duty patrol on that day.
The prosecutor added that he also attempted to escape and almost injured the guards with a knife, and was caught with different harmful items.
While delivering her judgement, the Magistrate, Olajumoke Somefun, declared that the convict is a real criminal.
She commended the efforts of the gruards who caught the man In the act, adding that they have been dutiful in their job.
She therefore sentenced Magaji Abeeb to 14 years imprisonment without an option of fine.
