The Balogun of Egbaland, Chief Sikiru Atobatele and a chief described as interloper chief Taiwo Sokunbi have been reported to the Department of State Security over the crisis rocking the Ijeja Chieftaincy tittle .
A lawyer from the BIDBOL Solicitors and Advocates, R. Oshomoji confirmed that he has petitioned the DSS against Sokunbi and Atobatele for their involvement in the crisis in Ijejaland, Abeokuta.
The solicitor in a letter addressed to the Director of DSS, noted that the petition is imperative for the peace and security on Ijeja, saying that if left unchecked, it may escalate into bloodshed.
The Balogun of Egbaland was described as a conspirator in the allegation of planning to install a non-indigene as the monarch, the move which according to information was rejected by sons and daughters of Ijejaland.
“Having failed in their bid to elect Chief Taiwo Sokunbi, they resorted to dividing ljeja Chiefdom into Two (2) which the people of ljeja land, the Baale’s and Chiefs in ljeja, Egba that were not involved in their plot resisted the moves.
“Chief Solanke (Balogun of ljeja) and Chief Sodipo (Ekerin Balogun ljeja) according to unconfirmed information billed Chief Taiwo Sokunbi the sum of N10,000,000.00 (Ten Million Naira Only) and hired the service of High Chief Sikiru Olatunde Atobatele, the Balogun of Egba land.
“Chief Atobatele superintendents over the Head of Ologun/Olorogun of ljeja land. As a result, he used his ranking to manipulate and pressurize the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo into accepting their biddings”, the petition reads
The petitioner who exonerates the Alake, however stated that “Our clients are not saying that Alake of Egbaland being the Paramount Ruler of Egbaland cannot divide, enthrone anybody but the person enthroned must have parental linage in that town specifically the male parent as stipulated by Ogun State Chieftaincy law.
“The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo was not aware of the scheme that Chief Taiwo Sokunbi who was brought to him through a proxy, Chief Atobatele (Balogun Egba) was not actually from ljeja land”.
It stated further that, Chief Taiwo Sokunbi’s parents are from lgbore Ntoji Compound Abeokuta, the same compound with Coker famiiy.
Also that Chief Taiwo Sokunbi and his twin brother Mr. Kehinde Sokunbi who works with GLO Nigeria Limited were born at lgbore Egba Village called Seriki-Sotayo very close to the Ogunmakin town in Obafemi Owode Local Government area of Ogun State.
It also accused Chief Taiwo Sokunbi as a well known land grabber at Badore in Etti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State which according to law is not entitled to such an elated position in the public.
Meanwhile in a seperate interview, Barr. Kehinde Amusa stated that he had earlier confronted Chief Sokunbi on paternity in the presence of DSS officials, which according to him was not refuted.
He was however shocked that he is still parading himself as an indigene of Ijejaland, instead of Igbore, his paternal lineage.
“I grew up together with Sokunbi, we know ourselves and he was never from Ijejaland. I even confronted him at the DSS office sometime around October, 2022 and he could not fault my claim. Such a person cannot be install as monarch, even as a coronet in Ijejaland”, Amusa said
The petitioner however called on the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo and other stakeholders in chieftaincy affairs in Ogun state and the DSS to investigate these allegations before “Ijeja community is turned into another Agodo”
It maintained that the findings of the investigation will further prevent breach of public peace and bloodshed in the community.
