Delta state Ministry of Women affairs, community and social development has graduated and empowered 325 women in various skills’ acquisition to be self-reliance and be better entrepreneur in the society.
The empowerment skills acquisition programme took place at Asaba, the state capital.
The state governor who was ably represented by her excellency, Dame Edith Okowa, wife of the state governor said that the skill’s programme was partner after other entrepreneurship development initiatives; like STEP, YAGEP, GEEP, GEST and others.
She maintained that Delta state government has covered eventually every group in the society in continue effort to create wealth and achieve social inclusion for sustainable development.
She added that ” empowering women folks is an integral part of the Okowa’s economy policy to lift the poor and vulnerable.
She continues that ” the Okowa’s administration has taken several measures since he assumed office in the ministry of women affairs to take the women out of poverty to enhance their participation in the economy”.
She urged the beneficiaries of the programme not to sell the starter packs given to them but ensuring that they put what they were taught to good use, just she noted that the journey will not be as smooth and rosy at the beginning, but success is sure at the end.
Earlier at her opening speech, the commissioner of women affairs, community and social development, Hon. Mrs. Flora Alatan disclosed that the ministry has empowered over 1460 women across the 25 local government areas in different phases from 2020 till date.
Hon. Flora added that the empowerment has lifted women out of poverty and enhances their participation in the economic development of their families and invariably the state.
In statement, ” today another 325 beneficiaries will be empowered having been given intensive training to perfect their skills and to enable them to become better entrepreneurs”.
“ I want to congratulate you that you are among those selected to be empowered, you will agree with me that a lot of your mates wish to be here but couldn’t but grace found you, you owe it to yourself to succeed”.
She thanks the state governor for his continuous love for the women folk, saying Delta bis bless to have a governor and a father who is interested in the economic emancipation of women and ensuring that all the empowerment programme in the state accommodate women.
The empowerment programme was well attended by top government officials.
