Scores of the residents of Ogun state have lamented the stress they suffered in a bid to collect their Permanent Voter Cards.
The residents of the State, however, appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state to distribute their PVCs at their wards for easy collection, claiming they spent hours, under the sun, in queues.
On Tuesday, the first day of the two-day holiday, declared by the Ogun State government for the residents to collect their PVC’s, they were seen sweating profusely under the sun at the Abeokuta South Local Government Area office the commission .
A resident, Nkechukwu Emmanuel, who said he had been on the queue for over two hours, lamented that the INEC is not organized and not ready for them.
He mentioned that he had been to the former INEC office at Mortuary, which was locked, earlier before going to the one at Oke-Ilewo, stressing that he left some people waiting there.
He said, “some people are still at the office at Iyana Mortuary, when we got there, the place was locked. Coming back here, the issue is that they are not well organized, I have been here for over two hours, and I’m on medication, I need to get the PVC today.
“It’s frustrating, the approach is poor, they bring out the PVC one after the other.”
He therefore urged INEC to take the PVCs to the wards to aid easy movement and collection of the cards.
“I told an officer that the only thing they can do is to take it back to the ward . They should be able to identify each ward, the solution is to take us back to the wards,” he added.
Another resident, Mr Afeez Ayorinde, urged INEC to get more hands to aid fast and easy distribution .
According to him, the number of staffs INEC has is not enough, as he said “the process is too slow .”
He added, “they bring out the cards one by one, they bring one card first, then they go back inside to bring another one. It would be easier if they take them to wards.”
Also, a lady, Babatunde Biola, who got her PVC, said that she spent hours before she could get her card.
She added that she is ready to vote as her PVC means a lot to her to vote for her choice.
