…Agency Alleges Cross-Party Conspiracy By APC, PDP, ADC Politician

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday sounded the alarm over a purported plot by politicians across party lines to undermine the nation’s anti-corruption drive ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the agency alleged that some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) were allegedly collaborating with academics, self-styled civil society activists, and Nigerians in the diaspora to discredit the commission.
According to the EFCC, the purported plan involves a “motley crowd of paid jobbers” circulating fabricated allegations against the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, and the agency itself. The campaign, the commission claimed, is intended to portray it as politically biased and intimidate it from pursuing investigations, particularly against opposition figures.
“Their objective is to befuddle the work of the Commission and, through scaremongering, intimidate it into a timid mode where it will be afraid to investigate opposition politicians for fear of being labelled partisan,” the statement said.
The commission warned that such attacks were likely to escalate as political activities intensified ahead of the 2027 polls.
It noted that these maneuvers were designed to distract the EFCC from its core mandate of combating corruption and promoting public accountability.
Despite the alleged sabotage plot, the EFCC insisted it would remain undeterred, monitoring the activities of those involved while continuing to carry out its statutory responsibilities.
Reaffirming its non-partisan stance, the commission said political affiliation offers no immunity from investigation or prosecution.
“As a matter of fact, several strong members of both the ruling and opposition parties are either facing trial before the courts or are under investigation by the commission,” the statement added.
The EFCC concluded that it would discharge its duties without fear or favour, stressing that the agency’s commitment to fighting corruption would remain steadfast as the nation heads into another election cycle.
