Twenty-two teenagers from the historic city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, were on Sunday honoured for achieving a rare religious feat—memorising the entire Glorious Qur’an.
The young scholars, all under the age of 18, graduated from the Rowdotu-t-Tanzeel Tahfeez Arabic School at a grand ceremony marking the fourth edition of the school’s annual Qur’an memorisation and Islamic education graduation.
The event drew a large gathering of Islamic scholars, academics, dignitaries, and proud parents from within and outside Nigeria, with some participants also joining virtually.
With flawless recitations, the young graduates moved the audience to tears, showcasing not just their mastery of tajweed (Qur’anic phonetics) and Arabic grammar, but also their deep understanding of Islamic ethics and discipline.
In his address, the Director of the school, Mallam Mutiu Uthman, described the achievement as more than just an academic milestone. According to him, the initiative was born out of the need to nurture sound Islamic morals and Qur’anic knowledge in the younger generation.
“Memorising the Qur’an is a noble achievement, but more important is living by its teachings. It should shape character and decision-making, especially in a world increasingly overwhelmed by digital distractions,” Uthman said.
He urged Muslim parents to invest in their children’s spiritual growth, noting that many alumni of the school are now studying at prestigious institutions like Al-Azhar University in Egypt, as well as universities in Malaysia, Türkiye, and Nigeria.
The Chairman of the event, Professor Shuaib Osunleke, commended the students for their resilience and commitment. He called on Muslims to embody the values of the Qur’an through peace-building, justice, and compassion.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Sheikh Sirajudeen Bakrin, the Chief Imam of Fountain University, Osogbo, advised the celebrants to remain steadfast in their faith and guard against distractions that could derail their spiritual journey.
“They are now custodians of Allah’s words. This is a lifetime responsibility that must be protected and exemplified through righteous living,” Bakrin said.
The graduands, whose names were publicly celebrated, include Ibrahim Oluwaferanmi Lawal, Alabi Habeebah Oluwadunmininu, Munirudeen Abdulrahman Abiodun, Fari’ah Temitope Ojuroye, Abdul-Qawiyy As-Siddiq Abdulhameed, Ibrahim Olamide Lawal, Aleem Halimah Olamide, Firdaus Oluwaferanmi Oyelami, and Odenike Ibraheem Dolamu.
Others are Olowomojuore Muhammad Olakunle, Adeboye Summayyah Adedolapo, Ajibade Waliyah Adeola, Adewale Kafilah Adebimpe, Adedokun Fatimah Afolashade, Olurode Tolhah Kehinde, Saheed Sofiyyah Adedamola, Moyosore Muhammed Alade, Badru Muhammad Olusola, Tajudeen Toliah Akorede, Tajudeen Abdullah Olamide, Teslim Aisha Aduke Ayomide, and Abdullah Opeyemi Abdul Rasaq.
The event ended with prayers for the continued success of the memorisers and a call to action for the Muslim community to raise more young ambassadors of the Qur’an.
