The Ogun State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confiscated 222.42 kilograms of cannabis, commonly known as marijuana, from different drug spots across the state.

The Commander of Narcotics at the NDLEA State Command, Ibiba Odili, in a statement on Tuesday, revealed that the Command also seized 40 bottles of codeine, totaling 0.4 liters, during a raid on drug joints in the state capital, Abeokuta.

Odili added that the operatives carried out operations at various drug joints, including Mayas in Lafenwa, Odo-Eran in Obantoko, and Randa, all located in Abeokuta, resulting in the discovery of the drugs.

Speaking further, the Commander said a locally made firearm was recovered from one of the drug joints.

“The gallant joint operatives seized a jaw-dropping 222.42 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, also known as marijuana, in one fell swoop.

“This will deal a significant blow to drug traffickers, interrupting their supply chains and destabilising their illicit operations.

“In addition to the cannabis seizure, the joint forces discovered 40 bottles of Codeine, weighing a total of 0.4 liters, highlighting the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs.

“The operatives also seized a locally made gun during the operation.” The statement reads

According to Odili, the NDLEA, together with the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ogun State, launched the fourth phase of their operations to eliminate and gather intelligence on the illegal distribution and misuse of drugs in Abeokuta.

Odili expressed confidence in its ability to dismantle drug trafficking networks and disrupt the flow of illicit substances, with the ultimate goal of establishing a secure and drug-free environment.
