About 29 individuals of the Yoruba Nation movement, purportedly affiliated with the movement, were brought before the Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan, Oyo State.

They face charges related to their alleged involvement in the attempted incursion of the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly premises.

The proceedings, documented under charge number Mi/520c/2024, pit the Commissioner of Police against the accused, highlighting the legal ramifications of the incident that occurred on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Masked individuals, believed to be Yoruba Nation agitators, reportedly attempted to raise their flag at the state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, before being thwarted by joint security forces.

The charges brought against the defendants include counts of treasonable felony, unlawful society membership, illegal possession of firearms, and behaviour likely to cause a breach of peace.

The Investigative Police Officer, Inspector Bakare Rasaq of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan, emphasised the severity of the alleged offences under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

The outcome of this legal process will likely reverberate across the Yoruba Nation movement and may shape future interactions between its proponents and state authorities.
