No fewer than 30 local government areas in Osun State shared a staggering ₦21,942,573,033.00 in allocations for the months of January and February 2025, findings by PLATFORM TIMES have revealed.
The breakdown of the allocation, obtained by the newspaper, showed that Ife East Local Government received the lion’s share of the disbursement, with a total of ₦904,692,271.16, followed by Iwo with ₦888,463,339.88, and Odo Otin, which got ₦867,215,422.24.
Others in the top bracket include Ife North (₦842,535,568.67) and Ife Central (₦830,222,351.30).
The list continued with Aiyedaade which got ₦819,606,791.57, while Osogbo received ₦814,145,168.00,
Oriade, shared ₦812,496,842.03, Irewole collected ₦802,009,068.63,
Olorunda got ₦794,013,862.36, Boripe got ₦791,834,794.27, Ife South received ₦776,585,042.88,Ejigbo collected ₦775,614,358.01, Irepodun received ₦752,591,577.07, Obokun got ₦749,948,048.50, Ifelodun collected ₦740,795,534.11, Ilesa West shared ₦739,407,249.59, Orolu got ₦724,938,492.27 and Ilesa East collected ₦724,787,458.56.
Other LGAs that received sizeable funds include: Isokan received ₦703,161,001.91, Aiyedire shared ₦702,449,166.11 while Ede South and North got ₦683,690,531.34 and ₦681,055,599.49 respectively as Boluwaduro collected ₦680,755,545.43 as well as Ola Oluwa which got ₦678,104,356.50, while Egbedore, Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Ila and Ifedayo got ₦677,307,413.06, ₦673,867,412.04, ₦666,816,390.30, ₦666,729,327.51 and ₦606,779,907.67 respectively .
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the huge financial inflow to the grassroots administration raises fresh concerns over transparency, accountability, and project implementation across the 30 local government areas.
While the allocations are part of the statutory disbursements from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), critics have consistently questioned the lack of visible development projects in many of the local governments despite the regular financial support.
A resident of Obokun Local Government, Tunde Olagunju, questioned the impact of the allocations, saying, “Every month, we hear of billions going to LGs, but we still have terrible roads, schools without roofs, and health centres that can’t treat malaria. Where is the money going?”
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get comments from the Osun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs were unsuccessful.
