Ogun State is set to host the 65th National Conference of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) exactly 30 years after the state last hosted the event.
The conference, scheduled to hold in Abeokuta, the state capital, from August 18 to 25, 2025, will bring together over 1,000 participants from across the country.
The Chairman of STAN’s Ogun State chapter, Yomi Onanuga, made this announcement on Wednesday during a familiarization visit to the corporate office of PLATFORM TIMES in Abeokuta.
Onanuga disclosed that the conference would feature representatives from all 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, the conference will be marked by keynote addresses, workshops, and other events designed to advance science education in Nigeria.
Highlighting the historical significance of the event, Onanuga noted that Ogun State last hosted the national conference in 1994.
He said, “It is a privilege for Ogun State to once again host this important gathering of science educators from across the country. We are prepared to defend our championship status during the event.”
The Ogun State chapter of STAN has been active over the years, organizing workshops, seminars, and developing instructional materials to support science education in the state.
Onanuga, a lecturer at Olabisi Onabanjo University, also emphasized the association’s legacy, noting that STAN was founded in 1957 by four individuals, including two from Ogun State, the late Dotun Oyewole and Femi Oyewole, at King’s College, Lagos.
The familiarization visit to PLATFORM TIMES was part of efforts to build partnerships and secure media support for the forthcoming conference.
Onanuga led other state executives and members of the Local Organizing Committee to the meeting.
His entourage included Mr. Femi Ayanuga, Mrs. Grace Sodiya, Mrs. Veronica Adegboro, Mrs. Kafila Bolarinwa, Mrs. Nofisa, and Mr. Kayode Adewale.
During the interactive session, PLATFORM TIMES Editor, Daud Olatunji, pledged the media organization’s support for the conference.
He assured the STAN representatives of extensive publicity and coverage for the event.
“We are committed to ensuring that this national conference gets the visibility and recognition it deserves,” Olatunji said.
Flanked by other members of the management team, including Sodiq Mojibola, Anifah AbdulGaniy, and Michael Adenrele, Olatunji expressed confidence in the impact the conference would have on science education in Nigeria.
The 65th National Conference of STAN is expected to provide a platform for educators to exchange ideas, share best practices, and develop strategies for improving the teaching of science across Nigeria.
With Ogun State as the host, the conference also highlights the state’s commitment to fostering educational development and innovation.
As preparations intensify, the state chapter of STAN is calling on stakeholders, educators, and the public to support the conference and ensure its success.
