The armed forces have recorded substantial successes, as 39 terrorists were neutralized, 157 individuals were apprehended, and 109 hostages were rescued during a series of strategic operations over the past two weeks.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, made this triumphant announcement during a bi-weekly press briefing held in Abuja.

The operations spanned various regions of the country and signify a significant leap forward in the ongoing efforts to counter insurgency.

Buba revealed that the daring troops of Operation Hadin Kai executed a meticulously planned ambush in the North-East, effectively capturing Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Gwoza and Tarmuwa Local Government Areas of Borno and Yobe states.

This audacious maneuver yielded the surrender of some militants, elimination of others, rescue of hostages, and retrieval of a cache of arms and ammunition.

Another operation resulted in the elimination of 11 terrorists, the arrest of 45 others, and the liberation of 34 hostages.

These successful actions also led to the recovery of a substantial arsenal of arms and ammunition, bolstering the security forces’ readiness to counter further threats.

Among the impressive haul were six AK47 rifles, a HK21 gun, a GPMG, a fabricated gun, 11 AK47 magazines, and 34 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The troops also seized 17 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, a bandolier, seven empty 7.62mm special cases, five motorcycles, eight mobile phones, and N368,950 in cash.

The air component of the operations displayed its prowess by acquiring and targeting terrorists’ strongholds at Wulde in Borno State.

The ensuing results are under close monitoring to ensure sustained gains.

Shifting focus to the North-Central region, Operation Safe Haven accomplished exceptional feats.

Two gunmen were neutralized, three hostages were liberated, and 15 crime suspects were apprehended during the operation.

Notably, two suspects were arrested in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, one of whom was a high-priority armed robber on the watchlist of a security agency.

Buba disclosed that the troops recovered three AK47 rifles, a fabricated AK47 rifle, a fabricated pistol, a Dane gun, and 41 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition in Kaduna State.

Meanwhile, Operation Whirl Stroke in the North-Central successfully arrested a member of a notorious violent extremist group in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, while also neutralizing terrorists and effecting hostage rescues.

These resolute actions underscore the determination and effectiveness of Nigeria’s armed forces in countering threats to national security.

The sustained victories demonstrate the commitment of these brave personnel to upholding peace and stability across the nation.
