A prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a member of the party’s Presidential Transition Council’s Media Strategy Subcommittee, Aliyu Audu has said that 45 Ministers drawn from 200 million Nigerians are inadequate.
The APC chieftain expressed his concerns over the current number of ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying that the appointment of 45 ministers falls significantly short of what he believes is necessary for the nation.
Audu asserted this during an appearance on Channels TV Sunrise Daily.
The APC chieftain however, did not specify an ideal number of ministers required for effective governance.
He underscored the point that both 45 and even 45 ministers would not suffice given Nigeria’s population, which surpasses 200 million.
“We have a population of over 200 million. We are in a crisis,” Audu emphatically stated, highlighting the magnitude of the challenges faced by the nation.
Drawing parallels to Bola Tinubu’s previous tenure as the governor of Lagos State, Audu offered a historical perspective.
He noted that Tinubu’s innovative approach to governance, exemplified by the establishment of additional local governments, was initially met with skepticism.
Nonetheless, over the span of 24 years, the positive impact on Lagos’s growth and development has been undeniable.
Audu contrasted this progress with the trajectory of other states during the same timeframe.
“It’s not about potential. It’s not about what it used to be before. It’s about sheer growth between then and now,” Audu emphasized, highlighting the tangible results that have emerged from a strategy of closer-to-the-people governance.
