No fewer than 4,752 members of host communities in Edo and Delta states have benefited from the NEPL/Seplat Energy Joint Venture free medical treatment in the last 13 years.
Seplat’s Director, External Affairs and Social Performance, Chioma Afe, disclosed this in Benin, Edo State, at the 2025 edition of the flagship healthcare initiative, tagged: “Eye Can See”.
Represented by the Senior Manager, Corporate Social Investment and Social Performance, Esther Icha, said the 4,752 cataract surgeries were successful carried out in the last 13 year of the free treatment.

“Since inception of the outreach 110,634 persons benefited from the programme. 4,752 cataract surgeries were successfully done while 55,382 reading glasses were distributed to beneficiaries.”
She explained that the programme which include consultations, provision of reading glasses, cataract surgeries and health education on conditions such as glaucoma, hypertension, and diabetes was designed to provide healthcare fof host communities of Edo and Delta states.
On his part, the Commissioner for Health, Edo State, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole acknowledged the concrete impact of the Seplat/NEPL initiative to the host communities.
Represented by Dr. Edward Aisowieren, Director Medical services, noted out that more than half of the ailments that lead to permanent loss of sight are treatable, commending Seplat Energy and its partners for coming to the rescue.
The representative of NNPC Exploration & Production Limited (NEPL), Owunari Tomikeimieye, charged parents to encourage their children and wards to help preserve oil and gas assets in their domain.
According to her, it is from such resources that the Seplat JV would be able to continue delivering such life-changing initiatives to the host communities.
The representative of the Oba of Benin, The Obkhavbaye of Benin, Chief Ralphael Oronsaye, commended the Seplat Energy JV and urged the people to always take advantage of good initiatives by worthy corporate citizens.
Speaking on behalf of the Beneficiaries, Dennis Laure, commended Seplat JV for helping them overcome eye-health challenges, which he said has been negatively impacting their lifestyles and means of livelihoods for many years.
