A cry for help has emerged from Ota, Ogun State, as 51-year-old Ganiyu Yusuf, an albino whose life has been battered by diabetes and renal failure, fights for survival.
Yusuf, who now relies on twice-weekly dialysis sessions, faces a worsening health crisis and needs an urgent kidney transplant, with the cost for this life-saving procedure estimated at N25 million.
Yusuf’s case is further complicated by an amputation he endured several years ago due to complications from diabetes.
His health has since declined significantly, and his family is pleading for urgent assistance. In a heartfelt letter to PLATFORM TIMES, Yusuf’s brother shared the family’s desperation, stating, “My brother is down with kidney disease and requires a transplant to stay alive.
He is on dialysis twice weekly but urgently needs N25 million for the transplant.
I am appealing for collaboration to help us raise this amount to save his life.”
Attached to the letter were medical documents and a short video illustrating the grim reality of Yusuf’s condition.
A recent ultrasound report reveals troubling signs: Yusuf’s liver is enlarged, fluid is collecting in his abdominal cavity, and both kidneys show extensive damage, diagnosed as grade 3 renal parenchymal disease.
According to the medical report from Kidney Solutions Ltd., where Yusuf is currently receiving treatment, he has reached an advanced stage of kidney disease, classified as “end-stage.”
The report, signed by Dr. Ogeleyinbo Badunrin, outlined the breakdown of costs Yusuf’s family is struggling to meet.
The kidney transplant alone is projected at N18 million, with pre- and post-transplant evaluations, medications, and follow-up treatments further increasing the total expenses.
“This transplant is his only hope for a future,” the family’s plea continues, describing the impact of Yusuf’s deteriorating condition.
“He is no longer able to work or sustain himself. Every dialysis session is a battle. We are asking for any assistance, no matter how small, to help him afford this surgery.”
The family also highlighted the additional burden Yusuf faces as a person living with albinism, stressing that his journey with diabetes and kidney disease has been even more challenging due to his unique health vulnerabilities.
In addition to his dialysis costs, he continues to suffer from various health challenges tied to his condition, and every passing day brings heightened physical and emotional strain.
The family remains open to any support, willing to provide medical documents and records as necessary to ensure transparency.
They have also expressed a readiness to bring Yusuf to potential donors or sponsors to underscore the urgency of his situation.
