In a striking revelation, the Oyo State Police Command exposed a 60-year-old real estate agent, Adeyemi Isaac, for masquerading as a high-ranking police officer, both as a Commissioner of Police and an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).
At a press conference held at the Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adewale Osifeso, revealed that Isaac was apprehended alongside 32 other suspects involved in various criminal activities, including cultism, armed robbery, and impersonation.
The arrest came following numerous complaints from the public about Isaac’s use of counterfeit identities to unlawfully extort substantial sums of money from unsuspecting victims.
The Monitoring Unit of the Command conducted a discreet human intelligence operation, ultimately capturing Isaac at his hideout in Oyo town.
“During the interrogation, Isaac confessed to operating under the false identity for over a decade. He admitted to exploiting the fake persona not only to swindle individuals seeking police-related assistance but also to gain unwarranted advantages from both junior and senior police officers,” explained PPRO Osifeso.
Several victims who fell prey to Isaac’s deceit have come forward, recounting how they were duped into parting with significant amounts of money, believing they were dealing with a genuine Commissioner of Police or AIG.
Isaac himself spoke with reporters, acknowledging that he had fabricated his police credentials in an attempt to help people entangled in police matters.
He expressed regret that many of those he assisted failed to show gratitude for his actions.
Isaac emphasized that he had misrepresented himself as a police official on four occasions and vowed never to engage in such deception again if granted leniency.
“I have tried helping people four times, and I considered it a mistake to impersonate a police boss.
“I never worked as a police officer. Before my arrest, someone who used to assist me, a welder, asked for my help with his brother in police custody.
“He gave me the contact of an ACP, and I called for assistance. Sadly, most of those I helped never returned to express their gratitude,” lamented Isaac.
In a parallel development, another individual, Mr. Muhammadu Bello, aged 25, faced arrest on suspicion of cattle rustling and his alleged involvement in the death of his employer, Yau Mohammed, a cattle dealer from Soku Village near Iseyin Town in Oyo state.
PPRO Osifeso provided details on the case: “Based on credible information, a team of operatives was dispatched to Iseyin town.
They swiftly apprehended the suspect, identified as Mohammadu Bello, who confessed to being a cattle rustler.
He led investigators to a dense forest where he had concealed twenty live cows and fourteen sheep, all stolen from his employer.”
“Further investigation led to Soku forest, where the suspect claimed to have committed the heinous crime.
It was there that we discovered the lifeless body of Yau Mohammed, the owner of the stolen livestock, buried in a shallow grave.
The murder weapon, a club, was also recovered from the crime scene.”
The investigation is ongoing, with updates expected to follow, according to Osifeso.
Among the exhibits recovered from the alleged murderer were twenty live cows, fourteen live cattle, and a club
