The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Ogun 1 Area Command has recorded a remarkable 84.3% revenue increase in the first 28 days of 2026, collecting and remitting ₦106,277,312 to the federation account.
This strong performance marks an impressive start to the year and builds on the command’s solid gains in 2025.
Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, announced the figures during a press conference at Idiroko on January 29, 2026.
He compared the January haul to the ₦89.5 million generated in the same period of 2025, attributing the surge to diligent officer efforts and cooperation from compliant traders.
“We have started 2026 on the right foot,” Afeni stated. “We have collected and remitted the sum of ₦106,277,912 to the federation account which is above what was generated same month last year with ₦89.5 million which represent 84.3% increment.”
The revenue was derived primarily from baggage assessments and proceeds from auction sales of seized petroleum motor spirit, PMS, obtained through anti-smuggling operations.
In 2025, the command had already demonstrated growth by remitting ₦454,672,406, a 47% rise from ₦275,835,602 in 2024, highlighting consistent upward momentum.
Afeni expressed determination to exceed prior benchmarks, stressing that “we are determined to do more and surpass what was collected last year 2025,” he affirmed, crediting intelligence-driven enforcement and adherence to fiscal policies for the results.
The command’s performance aligns with broader NCS goals under Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whom Afeni commended for ongoing support.
“I want to express appreciation for the continuous support of the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR PhD,” he noted.
Stakeholders, including compliant traders and sister agencies, were recognized for their role in facilitating legitimate trade while curbing economic sabotage.
Afeni urged the public to provide timely information to sustain these gains.
Looking ahead, the controller pledged continued focus on revenue generation alongside security imperatives.
“Ogun 1 Area Command will not relent in its efforts to combat smuggling, facilitate legitimate trade, and generate revenue for national development,” he concluded.
