The Lagos State Government has earmarked a sum of N3.6 billion for the payment of wage allowances to 8,650 newly inducted civil servants.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that these funds were set to benefit various sectors within the state civil service, including education, health, administration, audit, law enforcement, fire services, and others.
The allocation was revealed during a specialized induction and training programme held at the Public Service Staff Development Centre in Magodo.
Adekunmilola Adio-Moses, Director General of PSSDC, outlined the diverse composition of the inducted employees, which includes education officers, health personnel, administrative officers, audit officers, house officers, law enforcement officers, fire officers, and others.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu affirmed the state’s commitment to its workforce, highlighting the provision of an additional N35,000 wage allowance for all civil servants and public officers since January.
This initiative aimed to alleviate financial pressures during challenging times.
The allocation of N3.6 billion for wage allowances reflects the government’s dedication to supporting its workforce and ensuring their well-being. Despite economic challenges, the state remains steadfast in fulfilling its obligations to its employees.
However, the delay in implementing similar wage awards across other states has drawn attention.
Despite President Bola Tinubu’s approval of a provisional wage award for federal government workers, many states, including Lagos, have yet to fully implement the agreed-upon allowances.
The discrepancy raises concerns about equitable treatment for workers nationwide.
