The city of Abeokuta stood still on Thursday as dignitaries from various spheres of life gathered to bid farewell to Reverend Fola Achudume, a beloved religious leader renowned for her selflessness and dedication to humanity.
The emotional funeral service, held at the Victory Life Bible Church (VLBC) Life Cathedral, was a testimony to the indelible mark she left on society.
Reverend Achudume, the wife of Apostle Lawrence Achudume, the founder of VLBC, died August 6,2024 .
She was celebrated not only for her spiritual leadership but also for her unwavering commitment to the welfare of the less privileged.
Political figures, religious leaders, and well-wishers who thronged the cathedral bore witness to her life of service.
In a tribute delivered on behalf of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Deputy Governor, Engineer Noimot Salako-Oyedele, lauded Reverend Achudume as a beacon of hope for women and the youth.
“Reverend Achudume embodied the virtues of faith, service, and selflessness,” Governor Abiodun remarked.
“Her passing is a great loss, not just to her family, but to the entire Christian community. She was an ambassador of Jesus Christ, and her impact will be felt for generations.”
The sentiment of loss and gratitude was echoed by the wife of the governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, who described the late cleric as a “General in God’s army.”
She expressed deep sorrow over the loss, extending prayers for the family and the VLBC congregation. “Her absence will be profoundly felt,” Mrs. Abiodun stated, “but we take solace in the knowledge that she is resting peacefully in the Lord’s bosom.”
Adding to the chorus of tributes, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who was also present at the service, hailed Reverend Achudume as an “amazon” whose love for all was evident in her work, particularly among women and youth.
He urged her family and followers to find comfort in the fact that she lived a life full of purpose and made a significant impact on those around her.
The service was marked by a powerful sermon delivered by Prophet Isa El-Buba, General Overseer of El Buba Outreach Ministry International.
He reminded the congregation of the inevitability of death, urging them to live righteously to secure eternal life.
Prophet El-Buba commended Reverend Achudume for her legacy of kindness and service, affirming that her good deeds would be remembered across the nation.
Adding to the tributes, Mrs. Martha Emmanuel, the former First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, recounted fond memories of the late Reverend, describing her as “a God-sent angel” who had touched countless lives with her compassion and generosity.
Reverend Funke Adejumo, wife of the General Overseer of Agape Christian Ministries, echoed these sentiments, noting that Reverend Achudume “fought the good fight” and left a lasting legacy in the service of God and humanity.
The event, which was well-attended, also featured heartfelt presentations from members of Reverend Achudume’s alma mater and old school associations, underscoring the profound impact she had from her early years.
Royal ladies, various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), representatives of traditional rulers, and professional bodies were also present, each contributing to the rich tapestry of tributes that highlighted her multifaceted influence.
