Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, on Monday, congratulated All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, on his victory in the Edo State governorship election.

Okpebholo polled 291,667 votes to defeat PDP’s Asue Ighodalo, who came second with 247,274 votes, and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata, who finished third with 22, 763 votes.

Abiodun, in a congratulatory message to Okpebholo, the APC, and President Bola Tinubu, highlighted the elections’ transparency and legitimacy and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their efforts in guaranteeing a free and fair electoral process.

He stated that the peaceful conduct of the election reaffirmed that Nigeria’s democracy is maturing and evolving.

Abiodun said, “Such a commitment to democratic principles is a testament to INEC’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and fostering trust in the electoral system.”

The governor commended the Edo people for their active participation in the electoral process, noting that their voices have been heard loud and clear.

“This election not only reflects their wishes but also signifies a collective stride towards more vibrant and accountable governance,” he added.

Abiodun also praised Tinubu for his vision and leadership, which he said were crucial in helping the APC win.

He acknowledged that the party has been growing stronger under Tinubu’s leadership, while also restating his conviction in the advancement of Nigeria’s democracy.
