The Oyo State Police Command on Friday paraded three suspects, arrested for alleged cable theft, robbery and defilement.

The command’s spokesman, SP Adewale Osifeso, paraded the suspects at its headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

Osifeso said one of the suspects was arrested on Monday for allegedly stealing telecommunication cables from a mast in Mapo, Ibadan.

According to him, the suspect was apprehended possessing 19 pieces of the cables worth several millions of naira.

He added that further investigation is needed to reveal other accomplices of the crime.

Osifeso said the second suspect disguised as a commercial tricyclist to rob his passengers midway through their journey.

“On September 17, at about 4:06 pm, the suspect carried his victim with his TVS tricycle from Arisekola Mosque to under the bridge at Iwo Road, Ibadan.

“After a few metres, the suspect stopped and ordered the victim off his tricycle, leading to an argument between the suspect, victim and another syndicate member, who approached the scene under the guise of being a passerby.

“During the process, the suspect allegedly removed an I-Tel phone from the unsuspecting victim’s possession,” he said.

The police spokesperson said the victim later raised an alarm and the suspect was apprehended with the assistance of members of the public.

He said investigations by the anti-robbery unit led to the recovery of another Tecno phone, allegedly stolen from another unsuspecting passenger the same day, around the Ojoo area of Ibadan.

Meanwhile, the third suspect was arrested for allegedly defiling a two-year-old girl.

The 33-year-old motorcyclist was said to have picked up the girl from her school without parental consent.

The suspect, who regularly assists the mother in school runs, later dropped the victim at her mother’s shop without calling or informing her.

The girl later complained of pains in her vagina immediately after she sighted her mother.

According to SP Osifeso, the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of investigations.
