    Daud Olatunji

Wife of Comptroller-General,and the National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, has awarded scholarships to 54 outstanding pupils from Nigeria Customs’ schools.

The COWA national president also distributed palliatives  to over 50 widows of fallen customs officers.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that these were  done  during her oversight visit to the Ogun I Chapter of COWA on Friday.

The visit, which took place at the Ogun 1 Area Command in Idiroko, was marked by acts of compassion and support for both students and the widows of fallen customs officers.

In her keynote address, Mrs. Adeniyi emphasized the importance of education, noting that the scholarship awards are part of COWA’s efforts to ensure a brighter future for children of customs officers.

She said “our scholarship awards to the children of customs officers symbolize our belief in the power of education as a pathway to a brighter future.

PLATFORM TIMES further reports that each recipient, drawn from both primary and secondary schools, was provided with writing materials, including books and math sets, in addition to the scholarships.

Mrs. Adeniyi reaffirmed COWA’s commitment to supporting these widows, stating, “The support to our widows reminds us all that we are one family and will never forget the sacrifices made by our loved ones.”

She added that the widows received food items and other essentials aimed at alleviating the challenges they face in the absence of their loved ones.

Mrs. Adeniyi encouraged the wives of customs officers to engage in capacity-building programs, which are critical to personal development and the well-being of their families. She urged them to embrace skills training and education, noting that “when women grow, families thrive, and societies prosper.”

The event concluded with a charge from Mrs. Adeniyi for the Ogun I Chapter to maintain unity and harmony, underscoring the importance of sisterhood and mutual support within the association. “Internal unity is the cornerstone of our success,” she said, urging the members to work together to continue COWA’s legacy of compassion and service.

In her welcome remark, the Chairperson of the COWA Ogun I Chapter, Princess Folu-Ojo Adenike, expressed her gratitude to the National President for her leadership and unwavering support.

She acknowledged the significant role COWA plays in the lives of customs officers’ families, highlighting that the association’s mission goes beyond duty and centers on compassion and community care.

“As the wives and children of our officers face the challenges that come with their loved ones’ service, COWA is here to ensure they are supported and cared for,” Princess Folu-Ojo said, recognizing the sacrifices made by customs officers in protecting Nigeria’s borders.
