UEFA Champions League: ‘It’s a dangerous thing’ – Arsenal’s Timber agrees to going on strike

Arsenal defender, Jurrien Timber has lamented the Gunners’ fixture pileup by UEFA this season, saying it is dangerous.

The Dutchman spoke ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Following a redesign of the UEFA competitions, players are now expected to play more games than ever before.

FIFA has also redesigned its Club World Cup, making it a month-long affair. It won’t just include the current winners of the Champions League, but former winners as well.

The UEFA Champions League has also seen a revamp, having added more teams and switched from a group stage to a league stage design.

Timber made it clear that he agreed with going on strike over the tight schedule.

Speaking to the press ahead of their match against PSG, he said (via Tribal Football), “I totally agree with them. It’s a big topic at the moment in dressing rooms, not only at City and Liverpool but also our dressing room.

“I totally understand what they’re saying. I honestly think it’s a dangerous thing.

“Last week, we played City and I think they played again two days later, that’s too much. I understand why players are complaining.”
