Operatives of the Nigerian police have arrested 14 suspects for allegedly vandalising the 132 KV Transmission Tower Line along the Ahoada-Mbiama and Igbogene axes in Rivers and Bayelsa

The suspects, who were said to have been on the wanted list of the police for the past few months, were arrested based on intelligence reports in Rivers State.

The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 16 headquarters in Yenagoa, Gunn Emonena, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Emonena said the suspects were arrested following a petition to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 16 headquarters, Yenagoa, by the Commissioner for Power Kharin Komuko on behalf of the Bayelsa Government.

According to the statement, the suspects, who have been on the wanted list of the zone for the past few months, were arrested in Rivers State based on credible intelligence.

“In the course of diligent and painstaking investigation, 35mm floor-core armoured cable, 70mm floor-core armoured cable, 50mm SLPE cables, and an electrical pot insulator were recovered from the suspects.

“Also recovered are wheel spanners, cutting blades, long bots, eleven KV poles, recline cables, earth cables and copper,” it reads.

The police spokesperson urged residents to take all necessary steps to protect the properties within their vicinity.
