Concerned citizens have called on the security agencies to redouble efforts in order to arrest the persistent kidnappings along the Gusau-Funtua road.

Many commuters told newsmen in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, that the situation has gone beyond control.

According to one Abubakar Ibrahim Danmarke, “I was travelling from Danmarke in Zamfara Kaduna on Monday, when bandits blocked the road; it was a sad experience.”

He said the bandits blocked the road at three different locations during his journey.

“After the military operatives pushed the bandits out of the road, we encountered another group of bandits between Kucheri and Magazu, followed by a third ambush near Tsafe town,” he added.

He pointed out that over ten members of the Zamfara local security network, Community Protection Guards, CPG, were reportedly killed in an ambush by the bandits.

Another traveller, Umara Musa said that the Gusau-Funtua route had become so dangerous.

“Killings and kidnappings by bandits have become everyday happenings,” he lamented.

One Babangida Haruna, a trader, said he used to visit weekly markets in Funtua, Sheme, Yankara, and Giwa, but had since stopped due to the persistent terror attacks along the road.

He demanded a comprehensive review of the security architecture along the road for the safety of travellers.
