The Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has been plunged into mourning following the passing of one of its esteemed leaders, Chief Raobil Isola Akinsipo, the Akogun of Owu Kingdom.
Chief Akinsipo passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, aged 69, and was laid to rest the same day in accordance with Islamic customs.
In a statement signed by Chief Dr. Abiodun Lasile, Orunto of Owu Kingdom, and issued on behalf of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Alayeluwa Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, Oluyalo Otileta VII, the kingdom paid tribute to Chief Akinsipo’s life and legacy.
Describing him as a distinguished leader who exemplified exceptional service and dedication, the monarch emphasized that Chief Akinsipo’s contributions to the growth and development of the Owu Kingdom would never be forgotten.
Chief Akinsipo was a multifaceted individual who served the kingdom in various capacities, most notably as the Head of Iwarefa Owu, a council of elders responsible for the administration and governance of the kingdom.
His leadership and wisdom were seen as pillars that upheld the cultural and traditional values of the Owu people.
Beyond his role as a traditional leader, Chief Akinsipo was a seasoned broadcast practitioner, a specialist in the Yoruba language, an insurance consultant, and a traditionalist.
“His versatility and commitment to service earned him widespread respect and admiration within and outside the Owu Kingdom.
“Chief Akinsipo was a man of profound wisdom and dedication. His contributions to the Owu Kingdom have left an irreplaceable void, and his passing is a great loss to our community.
“He will be remembered for his selfless service, his integrity, and his unwavering commitment to the advancement of Owu Kingdom,” the statement read.
The statement expressed deep condolences to the family of the late chief and prayed for the repose of his soul.
The statement read further “on behalf of Alayeluwa, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, Oluyalo Otileta VII, Olowu of Owu Kingdom, we extend our heartfelt tribute to Chief Akinsipo’s remarkable life and enduring legacy.
“As a distinguished leader, he embodied exceptional service and dedication to humanity.
Chief Akinsipo served the Owu Kingdom in various capacities, including as the Head of Iwarefa Owu.
“He was a seasoned broadcast practitioner, a Yoruba language specialist, an insurance consultant, and a traditionalist.
“His unwavering commitment to service, profound wisdom, and significant contributions to the Owu Kingdom have left an irreplaceable void in our community.
“We pray that his soul rests in perfect peace and that Chief Akinsipo’s legacy continues to inspire generations. May his memory be forever blessed.”
