Reactions have continued to trail the recent cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu over underperformance.
DAILY POST reports that Tinubu, in a Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting on Wednesday sacked five ministers and reassigned ten others in a sweeping cabinet reshuffle aimed at injecting new life into his administration.
Sources close to the Presidency however revealed that the development is only the beginning as the axe will still fall on more ministers.
A high-ranking government official who pleaded anonymity, said Tinubu was determined to root out underperformance and inefficiency within his cabinet.
“The President knows that there are more ministers who are not pulling their weight, and he’s willing to take drastic action,” the source disclosed.
The five ministers ousted from the cabinet are Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs, Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism, Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, Abdullahi Gwarzo, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development and Jamila Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development
Seven new ministers were appointed and are awaiting Senate confirmation.
The Ministry of Niger Delta Development has been renamed Ministry of Regional Development, and the Ministry of Sports Development has been dissolved, with its functions transferred to the National Sports Commission.
The cabinet reshuffle comes after months of growing calls from Nigerians for a shake-up with some critics accusing Tinubu’s administration of being slow to deliver on key campaign promises.
Reacting, a political analyst, Akinwunmi Adeoye, said it was a bold move by the President to reinvigorate his administration and show Nigerians that he’s committed to results.
“The message is clear: perform or face the consequences.
“It’s clear that Nigerians are hungry for change and expect the president to take bold action. The president must continue to demonstrate his commitment to results and accountability,” he said.
Other Nigerians took to social media to express mixed reactions, with many demanding more action:

“This is a good start, but we need to see tangible results.” (@NigeriaFirst).
“More ministers need to go! We can’t afford complacency.” (@ChangeNigeria).
The reactions suggest that Nigerians expect more drastic measures to address the country’s challenges with many calling for further action to address insecurity, economic stagnation, corruption and infrastructure decay
On its part, the Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC, welcomed the cabinet reshuffle, urging Tinubu to go further.
“We commend the president’s bold move, but we demand more action to address the country’s economic and social challenges,” NLC said.
