Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has launched a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming that the current leader entered office with no coherent plan for the nation.
In a recent interview, Obasanjo criticized Tinubu’s approach, arguing that effective leadership is not about making spontaneous pronouncements but requires careful planning and strategy.
In his statement, Obasanjo expressed disappointment in Tinubu’s three-point agenda, describing it as unformulated and unstudied.
“What do you say of a president who came to office without a plan? Came to office without a plan and then you woke up and just said three-point plan.
What are the three-point plan? What are they going to achieve? Who are the people who have worked on it?” Obasanjo questioned, noting that effective governance demands more than unprepared statements.
The former president contrasted Tinubu’s leadership with his own tenure, reflecting on his actions as military head of state when Nigeria joined the frontline states in the fight against colonialism and apartheid in southern Africa.
Obasanjo recounted how his government’s firm policies earned Nigeria respect and credibility on the global stage.
“We were determined and as a result of our policy, our pronouncement and determination, we became known as a member of the frontline states though we were thousands of kilometers from the frontline,” Obasanjo said.
“Our commitment made African countries and the international community respect us, and that is leadership.”
As of this report, President Tinubu’s camp has yet to issue a response to Obasanjo’s remarks.
The comment has, however, sparked significant discourse within political circles, with citizens and analysts alike questioning the administration’s readiness to address the country’s pressing issues.
