Egbin Power Plc, a leading power generation company in Nigeria, has intensified its commitment to safety and operational excellence by achieving a significant milestone in workforce development.

In collaboration with the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), Egbin Power recently certified 28 employees, bolstering safety standards in the company and setting a higher benchmark for the power sector.

The certification process, conducted by ISPON, involved comprehensive training, assessment, and screening, leading to the induction of the 28 employees into the Institute.

The event, held at the Egbin Power Plant, underscored Egbin Power’s commitment to fostering a culture of safety that extends beyond compliance.

According to ISPON, this certification signifies not only individual achievement but also Egbin Power’s sustained drive to ensure a well-equipped and safety-conscious workforce.

Julius Akpong, Head of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) at Egbin Power, emphasized the critical role of safety in the company’s operations.

“The induction of these employees into ISPON is a testament to our unwavering commitment to high safety practices and standards,” Akpong said.

“Empowering our workforce with the knowledge and skills to prioritize safety is essential in a sector where vigilance and caution are paramount.”

The newly certified employees are now recognized as ISPON members, qualified to advocate for safety practices within the company and in their broader communities.

Kaizer Ebiwari, ISPON’s National President, highlighted the importance of this responsibility, saying, “Every member of ISPON is tasked with promoting safety, not only in their workplace but also across Nigeria.

The expertise gained by these individuals will be crucial in enhancing safety measures at Egbin Power and in contributing to national safety awareness.”

This certification aligns with Egbin Power’s strategic goals of safety and sustainable operation.

The company’s in-house Learning Academy facilitated the ISPON training, equipping employees with the latest in safety management standards.

This initiative reflects Egbin’s aim to embed a rigorous safety culture, emphasizing that safety practices are everyone’s responsibility.

Gabriel Nkanga, Head of Human Resources at Egbin Power, commended the partnership with ISPON and praised the employees’ dedication.

“This milestone validates our commitment to safety excellence,” Nkanga remarked. “It not only empowers our workforce but reinforces our position as a responsible leader in the power sector.”

Esther Adediji of the QHSE Department credited Egbin Power’s support in her journey to ISPON membership, adding that she looks forward to leveraging her new certification to further safety advancements within the company.

Mayowa Ajuwon from the Support Service Department shared similar sentiments, expressing that the certification had “laid the groundwork” for her future professional growth in safety management.
