The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Osun State has disengaged 3,075 corps members from the 2023 Batch C Stream 2 service year.
Also, Osun NYSC extended the service year for 45 corps members for different offences as outlined in the NYSC By-law, while 48 corps members were reported to have absconded from service during the course of the year.
The disengagement occurred across the various local government areas in the state.
In a low keyed ceremony in Osogbo and Olorunda local government areas monitored by Erick Wophiel of the NYSC National Directorate Headquarter, Abuja and other senior officers of the scheme, the Osun NYSC State Coordinator, Agbor Ndoma Obim spoke on the scheme’s enduring role in fostering unity, despite regional and cultural differences.
Agbor praised the outgoing corps members for spreading the gospel of unity and national integration and for embodying the same at their various places of primary assignment and communities.
He commended the corps members for their outstanding performance and encouraged them to be exemplary citizens, contributing to the development of Nigeria wherever they may find themselves.
He said, “a total of 3,075 Corps Members served successfully while 45 bagged extensions for different offences as outlined in the NYSC By-law and 48 Corps Members were reported to have absconded from service during the course of the year.
“Throughout the year, Corps Members were deployed to various sectors, including education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure.
“Their service aimed to bridge the resource gap in these areas, and many Corps Members recounted experiences of personal growth, as well as the satisfaction of having left a positive impact in communities that needed support.”
The monitoring officer from Abuja, Erick Wophiel, in his address, commended the corps members for their commitment and urged them to apply the values of hard work, patriotism, and community spirit they acquired during their service year to their future endeavors.
He noted that the NYSC remains an essential platform for national integration and that the experience would be invaluable in their personal and professional lives.
In attendance were local government inspectors, zonal inspectors, and other NYSC officials who ensured the smooth execution of the ceremony.
