1. The Federal Government says it needs $10 billion Public-Private-Partnership investment in the power sector, in the next five to 10 years, to achieve 24 hours power supply. Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu disclosed this when the Director-General, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Dr Jobson Ewalefoh, paid him a courtesy visit.
2. The Federal Government has said it is putting measures in place to eliminate a new terror group, Lakurawa, operating in the Northwestern part of the country. Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, said more equipment and additional troops would be deployed to the affected areas in order to stem the tide of the security challenge and ensure that it did not escalate to other states.
3. The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has said that armed men invaded its construction site at Obajana in Kogi State. A statement by TCN’s General Manager on Pubic Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said its 330/132/33kV transmission substation was attacked Tuesday night.
4. The Court of Appeal, sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday disqualified Olusola Ebiseni as the Labour Party candidate for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, 16 November, 2024. The judgement was unanimously delivered by the three members of the panel and read out by the chairman of the panel, Justice Adebukola Banjoko.
5. The immediate past Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has embarked on vacation to “rest and undergo extended medical checks”. The media adviser to the former governor, Crusoe Osagie announced the development in a statement on Wednesday night.
6. Gunmen attacked an army checkpoint early on Wednesday at Ekenobizi, a border community between Abia and Imo states in Umuopara, Umuahia South Local Government Area, killing two soldiers. A military source said the attack occurred around 6:18 am. The gunmen arrived in a white Lexus (350/400) model, although the exact number of attackers could not be confirmed.
7. A massive fire on Wednesday broke out at the popular fitness centre, Eco Fitness Hub, in Gwarinpa, Abuja. The fire, which erupted at about 12 pm engulfed a large portion of the facility, though the cause remains unknown.
8. Twenty-four hours after his swearing-in, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Wednesday, approved the dissolution of the executive of all boards, agencies and parastatals in the state public service with immediate effect. The directive affected all permanent secretaries appointed outside the civil service.
9. Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Umar Ajiya has been replaced. The company’s spokesman, Olufemi Soneye announced Adedapo A. Segun as Umar’s replacement in a statement.
10. The Naira on Wednesday depreciated to N1,740 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,735 per dollar on Tuesday. However, the Naira appreciated to N1,645.4 per dollar in the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market, NAFEM.
