In a decisive effort to clamp down on criminal activities in Taraba State, troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade have apprehended a suspected informant for bandits during a clearance operation across several local government areas.

The suspect, identified as 73-year-old Alhaji Buba Maru, was reportedly aiding bandits by allocating land for their operations in the Bakin Dutse Mountains of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.

The operation, which targeted notorious criminal hideouts, aimed to ensure the safety of residents during the harvest season and the forthcoming yuletide celebrations.

Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Capt. Oni Olubodunde, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the offensive was concentrated on flashpoints, including the Bakin Dutse Mountains in Sunkani and other high grounds.

“The offensive led to the dismantling of multiple bandit hideouts and the arrest of a suspected bandit informant and collaborator,” Olubodunde stated.

“The operation extended to Kona Mountains in Lau Local Government Area and its surrounding areas, leading to significant results in neutralizing threats and restoring confidence among locals.”

Further operations were conducted in Yorro and Zing LGAs, where additional bandit camps and criminal flashpoints were cleared.

The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, reaffirmed the army’s commitment to combating terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping in the region.

He emphasized the importance of the operations in ensuring that farmers can safely harvest their crops and citizens can celebrate the festive season without fear of intimidation or harassment.

Residents in the affected areas have lauded the army’s efforts, expressing hope that the ongoing offensive will bring lasting peace to their communities.

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its resolve to maintain a robust security presence across Taraba State, assuring citizens of their safety throughout the festive period and beyond.
