A self-proclaimed pastor, Terry Tinate Augustus, popularly known as “Black,” has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a violent kidnapping syndicate linked to multiple abductions, including a recent high-profile case in Lagos.

Augustus, from the Ajapa community in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, was apprehended on December 8, 2024, in Alape, Ilaje Local Government Area, through a coordinated operation by the Amotekun Corps and the Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Pipeline Surveillance and Waterways Security, Engineer Alore Omosuyi.

The arrest followed intelligence provided by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Special Squad .

According to a statement issued by the media team of the Office of the SA to the Governor on Pipeline Surveillance and Waterways Security, Augustus played a significant role in the syndicate’s operations, which focused on kidnapping wealthy individuals for ransom.

The gang’s activities came to light after two of its members, Promise Mafimisebi and Monday Ikuesan, were arrested in Lagos.

During interrogation, Mafimisebi disclosed that the group recently collected a $52,000 ransom for the release of Isa Ososa, a prominent victim. He also revealed Augustus’s role as a key member of the gang.

The syndicate reportedly used swift abduction tactics and stolen vehicles to execute their operations in urban areas.

“Engineer Alore Omosuyi’s strategic leadership, in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps, ensured the successful apprehension of the suspect,” the statement read.

The arrest of Augustus marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks in the region.

Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have assured the public of their commitment to bringing all members of the syndicate to justice.
