Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, on Tuesday matriculated 3,258 students for the 2024 academic session, urging them to embrace purpose-driven education and shun all forms of misconduct, including bullying.
The matriculating students, drawn from Nigeria and other countries such as Chad, Benin, Togo, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Gabon, South Africa, and Côte d’Ivoire, were advised to leverage the university’s comprehensive training programme for their academic and personal growth.
Speaking at the ceremony, the institution’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ademola Tayo, charged the students to explore the principles of humanity and society to understand the purpose and significance of life.
“You are the catalyst for our presence here and the reason for the establishment of Babcock University: to provide you with a sense of purpose, guiding you towards a meaningful and impactful path in life to enable you thrive in any circumstance and community you inhabit,” Tayo said.
He emphasized the university’s commitment to providing a holistic education that encompasses mental, physical, and spiritual development.
Tayo also highlighted Babcock’s role as a hub for nurturing talent that will lead Nigeria and contribute positively to global society.
Advising the students to utilize the institution’s interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial approach to education, Tayo said, “You are the architect of your life, and your objectives must stem from your own aspirations.
Avoid societal biases, preconceptions, and the pressure to conform to norms. Pursue what you genuinely desire, regardless of the obstacles you may face.”
While stressing the freedom and independence university life offers, the Vice-Chancellor warned that the institution maintains zero tolerance for misconduct.
“Any student convicted of hooliganism, bullying, examination misconduct, sexual harassment, or drug-related offences will be expelled instantly,” he stated.
The ceremony also featured remarks from the Ogun State Coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mr. Hakeem Abdulhameed, who represented the Registrar of JAMB.
Abdulhameed urged the students to remain disciplined and focused, reminding them of the significant sacrifices made by their parents for their education.
He commended Babcock University for adhering to JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System, ensuring a transparent and credible admission process.
