Shariah Council Condemns Alleged Marginalization Of Muslims Under Tinubu Administration

The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), has voiced deep dissatisfaction over what it perceives as the political marginalization of Muslims by the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, since the duo assumed office in 2023.

Speaking at the Pre-Ramadan Lecture on Monday, Sheikh Abdurrasheed Hadiyyatullah, President of SCSN, criticized the Muslim-Muslim ticket’s promise to address the Muslim community’s concerns, stating that little has changed for millions of Muslims across the nation.

Despite hopes that the administration would prioritize Muslim interests, Sheikh Hadiyyatullah emphasized that Muslims continue to face significant political exclusion.

“We have observed Nigerians elect leaders of the same Islamic faith to the Presidency, yet justice and equity remain elusive for Muslim communities nationwide,” Sheikh Hadiyyatullah lamented.

He pointed out that socioeconomic challenges persist unabated, urging immediate governmental intervention.

Highlighting specific grievances, Sheikh Hadiyyatullah condemned what he described as attempts to suppress legitimate efforts by Southwest Muslims to organize for communal improvement alongside their Christian counterparts.

He warned against divisive tactics that could fracture the unity of the Nigerian Muslim community, urging solidarity in the face of perceived injustices.

“The Umma, our collective Muslim community, looks to us for leadership and assurance that their faith and rights will not be compromised for political gain,” Sheikh Hadiyyatullah asserted.

He concluded by cautioning against actions that might alienate Muslim voters in future elections, calling for a renewed commitment to justice and inclusivity in governance.
