Ondo State Police command says it has arrested three suspects accused of attacking members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ogbese, Ondo State.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the incident occurred on Sunday, February 23, when NANS members were attacked while traveling to Abuja for their annual convention in the Akure North Local Government Area in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State,Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, in a statement made available to newsmen in Akure.
She explained that the police received a distress call from a NANS member about an unprovoked attack by some youths in Ogbese.
She added that Police quickly responded, restored calm, and ensured the victims’ safety.
She stated that intelligence later revealed that this was not the first incident targeting NANS members in that community.
The PPRO explained that the special squad of the command successfully arrested three suspects linked to the incident through intelligence led policing.
According to Odunlami, Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi has assured NANS members of a thorough investigation to uncover all details of the attack and bring every person involved to justice.
She said the three suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will face charges once the investigation is complete.
Odunlami urges the public to remain law-abiding and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency.
