The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has announced the winners of the 39th edition of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, from December 20 to December 28, 2024.
In a statement signed by the NSCIA Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Council outlined the results across six categories, featuring male and female participants from across Nigeria.
The competition, organized by the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, serves as the national qualifier for international Qur’anic recitation contests.
Winners by Categories
Category 1: Memorisation of the Entire Quran with Tafsir and Qira’at
First Position: Rumaisa’u Dahir Ibrahim (Gombe, 95.60 points) and Bukhari Sunusi Idris (Kano, 98.20 points)
Second Position: Fatima Abubakar Lawan (Kano, 94.60 points) and Nuhu Muhammad (Gombe, 96.20 points)
Third Position: Zainab Yazid (Katsina, 92.50 points) and Mustapha Muhammad Nasir (Kebbi, 95.30 points)
Category 2: Memorisation of the Whole Quran with Tafsir
First Position: Khadijah Aliyu Ubam (Nasarawa, 96.60 points) and Bilal Hamza Abubakar (Zamfara, 96.20 points)
Second Position: Zeenat Olawumi Hamzat (Oyo, 95.80 points) and Ismail Dahiru Nuhu (Plateau, 96.01 points)
Third Position: Hafsa Yakubu Idris (Kano, 94.50 points) and Nasiru Dahiru Atafowa (Bauchi, 96.00 points)
Category 3: Memorisation of 69 Hizbs of the Quran
First Position: Khadija Ibrahim Aliyu (Kaduna, 99.50 points) and Abdussalam Rabiu (Katsina, 98.80 points)
Second Position: Fatima Musa Ahmad (Borno, 97.80 points) and Ahmad Zakariya Salisu (Yobe, 98.00 points)
Third Position: Hafsat Ahmad Abubakar (Plateau, 97.70 points) and Musa Aminu (Sokoto, 97.20 points)
Category 4: Memorisation of 30 Hizbs of the Quran
First Position: Aishatu Suleiman Isgogo (Kebbi, 98.50 points) and Lawal Jafar (Sokoto, 97.41 points)
Second Position: Khadijah Musa (Kaduna, 98.40 points) and Jabir Dahiru Ibrahim (Jigawa, 97.40 points)
Third Position: Jameelat Opeyemi Tijani (Kwara, 98.20 points) and Muhmmad Babagana Aji Kolo (Borno, 97.30 points)
Category 5: Memorisation of 10 Hizbs of the Quran with Tajweed
First Position: Sumayyah Umar Sheik (Niger, 96.50 points) and Bashar Mahmud (Jigawa, 92.80 points)
Second Position: Rukayya Aminu Yakubu (Jigawa, 94.30 points) and Issa Abdul-lateef (Kwara, 87.20 points)
Third Position: Hauwa’u Muhammad Bala (Plateau, 94.20 points) and Abdulmajeed Idris (Edo, 86.60 points)
Category 6: Memorisation of Two Consecutive Hizbs of the Quran
First Position: Fatima Bello Abdullahi (Cross River, 98.30 points) and Mohammed Sani Hassan (Ebonyi, 96.30 points)
Second Position: Zainab Muhammad Hussaini (Edo, 98.10 points) and Musa Jafar (Enugu, 95.50 points)
Third Position: Fatima Abubakar Sadiq (Akwa Ibom, 97.20 points) and Abdulganiyy Abdulsabur Umar (Edo, 94.40 points)
International Representation
Prof. Oloyede stated that the winners are exclusively eligible to represent Nigeria at international Qur’anic recitation competitions.
He also emphasized that participants are prohibited from representing other nations in the same competition year, warning of severe penalties for violations.
He expressed gratitude to the donors of prizes, including vehicles and pilgrimage sponsorships, and prayed for divine blessings for all contributors.
The NSCIA also reiterated the pivotal role of the Centre for Islamic Studies, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, as the sole coordinating body for such competitions in Nigeria.
Prof. Oloyede concluded by urging the winners to be exemplary ambassadors of Islam in learning and character, as they prepare for the 2025/1446 international contests.
