The Egba Muslim community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Alhaja Monsurat Atinuke Amoke Bankole, the Iya Adini of Egbaland and mother of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole.
Alhaja Monsurat, who passed away on Friday at the age of 78, was a revered matriarch in Egbaland and a significant figure in the Muslim community.
Her death came few days after the death of former Iya Sunnah of Ogun state and Yewaland, Princess Khadijah Edionseri .
One of the children of the deceased,Mr Taiwo Bankole, when contacted by PLATFORM TIMES on Friday morning, confirmed the report.
In his terse message to the enquiry, Taiwo writes “yes, it is”.
The Consultant to Ogun State governor on Islamic Affairs, Sheik Iskeel Lawal Sugar in a statement announced the death.
The statement described Alhaja Monsurat as a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to serving Islam and her community.
According to the announcement, her burial will take place in accordance with Islamic rites immediately after Solatul-Asr prayers on Friday at her late husband’s residence in Onikoko, Abeokuta.
The late Iya Adini of Egbaland was known for her unwavering commitment to the growth and unity of the Muslim community.
Her passing has been described as a significant loss not only to her family but also to the Egba Muslim community and beyond.
In the statement, prominent leaders and dignitaries, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, and other notable figures, have been notified of her demise.
The statement concluded with prayers for the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to forgive her shortcomings, bless her soul, and grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus.
