The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has joined the global commemoration of International Women’s Day 2025, calling for accelerated action to close gender gaps and promote inclusivity.
A statement issued by Public Relations Officer, Lagos NIPR, Samuel Adeyemi stated that
the event is themed “Accelerate Action”, emphasising the urgency of addressing gender inequality and ensuring that women and girls are empowered to drive meaningful change.
According to the statement,while speaking on the significance of the occasion, the Chairman of Lagos NIPR, Mrs. Comfort Obot Nwankwo, emphasized the critical role of public relations and strategic communication in shaping narratives, influencing policies, and advocating for a more inclusive society.
“Gender equality is not just a moral imperative but a strategic necessity for sustainable development. As communicators, we must leverage our platforms to amplify women’s voices, challenge stereotypes, and push for policies that foster inclusivity in the workplace and society at large,” she stated.
She highlighted the strides women have made in breaking barriers across industries, particularly in Lagos, where female professionals continue to lead and influence corporate and public sector spaces.
Mrs. Nwankwo also charged businesses, government institutions, and the media to move beyond rhetoric and implement decisive policies that promote gender equality.
“At Lagos NIPR, we celebrate the contributions of women in PR and beyond, and we remain committed to driving impactful conversations that accelerate action toward a more equitable future,” she added.
The chapter reaffirmed its commitment to championing gender parity through advocacy and strategic communication while urging key stakeholders to take proactive measures in closing gender disparities.
The celebration of International Women’s Day 2025 by Lagos NIPR reinforces the growing demand for real and sustained change in the pursuit of gender equality in Nigeria and beyond.
